According to the National Weather Service, the area’s precipitation will consist of a mix of rain and melting snow, with areas like Saginaw, Flint, and Detroit experiencing between 50-60% chances of rain. The weather is expected to be particularly volatile along Lake Huron and Lake Erie, where a Gale Warning is in effect from Tuesday morning until Wednesday.
The warning covers all of Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair, as well as the western portions of Lake Erie, with wind speeds reaching up to 35-40 knots and waves as high as 20 feet. Residents are urged to stay safe near the water and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
Temperatures tonight will dip to near freezing, with lows around 32°F. The cold snap will continue into Wednesday, with a slight warming trend expected later in the week.
