Detroit, Michigan – Cold air remains locked over Southeast Michigan this weekend, bringing periodic light snow and keeping daytime temperatures stuck in the 20s as travel impacts build through tonight and again late Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, light snow is expected to develop early this afternoon and continue on and off through the evening. While snowfall rates will be light, untreated roads could become slick, especially during the evening commute. High temperatures today are expected to top out in the mid to upper 20s, limiting melting.
Snow chances ease Sunday with dry but cold conditions holding across much of Lower Michigan. Highs will again struggle to climb out of the 20s, maintaining icy patches on sidewalks and secondary roads. Conditions deteriorate again late Sunday night as another system moves in after midnight.
The best chance for accumulation will be north of I-69, where 1 to 2 inches of snow are possible by early Monday morning. Areas closer to Detroit and south toward Monroe may see lighter amounts, but even minor snowfall could slow the Monday morning commute.
Snow is expected to taper off Monday morning, with temperatures climbing above freezing later in the day. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and watch for changing road conditions. Additional updates or advisories may be issued as snow timing becomes clearer.
