Detroit, Mich. – Drivers across southeast Michigan should prepare for a stormy end to the weekend as thunderstorms target Metro Detroit late Sunday. Road conditions could quickly deteriorate along I-94 and I-75, where heavy downpours and gusty winds may slow travel into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, showers are expected to begin Sunday afternoon with storms likely after 5 p.m. Rainfall rates could become heavy at times, raising the potential for ponding on local roads and reduced visibility. Winds out of the south may gust near 20 mph, adding to difficult driving conditions.

Sunday’s high will push into the low 80s before the storms roll in, but cooler air and lingering showers dominate Monday. Residents are urged to keep phones charged in case of power outages and allow extra travel time on major highways. Those attending outdoor events Sunday evening should have alternate indoor plans.

By Tuesday, scattered showers may continue before clearing skies return midweek. Highs trend downward into the mid-70s, a clear sign of fall settling into southeast Michigan.

Motorists should stay alert for updated advisories through the start of the week. Local agencies may issue warnings if flooding or storm damage becomes a concern.
