Marquette, MI – A persistent northwest flow over Lake Superior will bring light to moderate lake effect snow through the weekend. Residents and travelers should brace for challenging conditions, especially between Munising and Sault Ste. Marie along M-28.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, gusty winds up to 30 mph will combine with patchy blowing snow, significantly reducing visibility on roadways. Affected areas could see snowfall totals ranging from 3 to 5 inches by Sunday afternoon. Conditions are expected to remain blustery with wind chills dipping below zero.

Saturday will bring patchy blowing snow early, followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 16°F. Sunday, however, will see scattered snow showers, with daytime highs ranging from 15 to 23°F. Roads, including US-41 and M-28, may become slippery, and drivers are advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.

For those planning outdoor activities, Monday offers little respite, with more snow showers expected and temperatures climbing slightly to a high of 23°F. The bitter cold persists into Tuesday, with snow continuing and highs near 21°F.

Residents are urged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service at weather.gov/mqt/winter for the latest snowfall maps and travel advisories. Stay safe by dressing warmly, carrying emergency supplies, and delaying unnecessary travel during heavy snowfall periods.
