Detroit, Michigan – Wet roads and sudden downpours could disrupt travel across Michigan within the first full week of April as repeated rain systems move in, fueled by temperatures climbing into the 80s.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Michigan falls within a 50–60% probability zone for above-normal precipitation through mid-April, while temperatures trend 40–60% above average. This setup supports multiple rounds of rain across both Lower and Upper Michigan.

In Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Flint, drivers along I-75, I-94, and I-96 could encounter ponding during morning and evening commutes. Western Michigan, including Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, may see periods of heavier rainfall that increase the risk of minor river rises and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Northern Michigan and areas near Traverse City could also experience steady rainfall, though slightly less intense, while still dealing with saturated ground conditions that limit drainage.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 70s and mid-80s on warmer days, levels more typical of June. This warmth will enhance atmospheric moisture, allowing storms to produce brief but heavier downpours.

Residents should clear gutters, monitor local drainage conditions, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Power disruptions remain possible where heavier rain bands persist.

This active spring pattern will hold through mid-April, with additional alerts likely as each system develops across the region.
