Detroit, Michigan – Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph could hit Southeast Michigan within hours Saturday afternoon, with storms threatening travel and power reliability between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms is in place across much of Lower Michigan, with the greatest concern east of a line from Adrian to Bad Axe. Storms are expected to move southwest to northeast at nearly 60 mph, increasing the risk for sudden, fast-developing impacts.
Communities including Detroit, Pontiac, Flint, and Port Huron sit in the primary zone where strong wind gusts could down tree limbs and cause isolated outages. Drivers along I-75, I-94, and I-69 may encounter sudden crosswinds and brief visibility drops as storms pass. Localized hail up to 1 inch in diameter is also possible.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices ahead of the storms, and enable weather alerts on mobile phones. Evening plans may need adjustment as storms move through quickly but forcefully.
The threat is expected to end by late evening Saturday, though additional updates or warnings could be issued if storm intensity increases.
