GAYLORD, MI – Snow swirls through the air this morning across northern Michigan as gusty winds sweep across rooftops, fields, and frozen lakes. Motorists heading along I-75 and M-32 are urged to slow down, as blowing snow sharply reduces visibility and icy patches form on bridges and rural roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM Sunday, with 2 to 4 inches of additional snow expected and wind gusts reaching 35 mph. The heaviest snow bands continue across Emmet, Otsego, and Montmorency counties, with plows working to keep up as snowfall drifts along open highways.

By afternoon, widespread snow will taper to scattered lake-effect flurries, but slippery spots will persist through the evening. Temperatures hold steady in the mid-20s before falling into the teens tonight, creating a flash-freeze risk on untreated surfaces.

Looking ahead, another round of lake-enhanced snow is possible late Monday night into Tuesday, especially along the M-55 corridor. Early December will stay active, with repeated snow chances and highs stuck near freezing through the week.

Five-Day Outlook (Gaylord Area)

  • Monday: Mostly cloudy, high 25°F, flurries late.
  • Tuesday: High 26°F, light lake-effect snow possible.
  • Wednesday: Cloudy, high 29°F, snow returns late.
  • Thursday: Mostly cloudy, high 28°F, low 16°F.
  • Friday: Light snow likely, high near 27°F.
