Saginaw, Michigan – Drivers across mid-Michigan could hit slick bridges and snow-covered roads before the late-morning hours Sunday as a burst of mixed precipitation spreads across the Tri-Cities and the northern Thumb.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday for Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, and Sanilac counties. Snow totals of 1 to 3 inches, with isolated pockets near 4 inches, are possible while a light glaze of ice forms on untreated surfaces. Wind gusts may reach 35 mph, blowing snow across open roadways.

The greatest travel issues are expected along and north of the M-46 corridor, including Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, Caro, Bad Axe, and Sandusky. Bridges and overpasses are most vulnerable as temperatures hover around 32°F or slightly below, allowing moisture to freeze quickly.

Early Sunday drivers on I-75, M-13, and M-25 may encounter reduced traction and brief visibility drops in heavier bursts of snow. Local emergency managers urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time for morning travel.

MDOT officials recommend checking the Michigan Drive Map before heading out and avoiding sudden braking on icy stretches.

Conditions should gradually improve late Sunday morning as precipitation tapers, though additional advisories could be issued if temperatures remain near freezing into the afternoon.
