Detroit, Michigan – Stormy skies are on the way for southeast Michigan as Friday brings a renewed threat of thunderstorms, flooding, and dangerous wind gusts—especially near the I-94 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, the strongest storms are expected Friday afternoon and evening, with the highest threat between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 MPH near major roadways, including I-94 and I-75. Rainfall totals could exceed a half-inch in a short period, increasing the risk of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying or urbanized areas across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties.
Residents should secure outdoor objects, avoid underpasses during heavy rain, and plan commutes with caution. Flash flooding is most likely in spots with poor drainage and near construction zones on Detroit-area highways. Spotter activation may be needed due to possible severe conditions.
Friday night will bring lingering showers and a continued chance of storms before a break Saturday morning.
