Hamtramck, Mich. – A wave of summer storms is rolling through southeast Michigan, bringing threats of flash flooding, damaging winds, and soaking rainfall just in time for the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, thunderstorms could develop as early as Friday afternoon, with the strongest storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 MPH and torrential rainfall. Localized flooding remains a major concern, especially along low-lying areas near I-94, I-75, and in urban communities like Hamtramck, Dearborn, and downtown Detroit.
By Friday night, storms are expected to intensify, with an 80% chance of rain and wind gusts pushing past 20 MPH. Rainfall amounts may exceed a half inch in isolated downpours. Spotters may be activated if conditions worsen.
Saturday will offer a reprieve with mostly sunny skies and a high near 85°F. But the heat builds Sunday, with temperatures climbing to 89°F under clear skies — perfect for outdoor plans if the ground dries out in time. More storms are possible Monday and Monday night, just ahead of the 4th of July holiday.
What’s next: Watch for updates through Monday as weather remains active. Spotty power outages and slick roads may persist if storms linger into early next week.
