Detroit, Michigan – Southeast Michigan heats up quickly this week with Wednesday’s high expected to hit 86°F, followed by a chance of thunderstorms Thursday afternoon that could impact roads and afternoon travel across the Detroit metro.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, gusty winds up to 25 mph will accompany sunny skies on Wednesday, but conditions shift by Thursday as a 40% chance of thunderstorms moves in after 2 p.m. Commuters on I-75 and I-94 should be alert for wet roads and isolated delays into the evening hours.
While Tuesday and Wednesday bring mostly sunny, dry conditions across Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland counties, Thursday through Saturday sees repeated chances for rain. NWS notes that scattered storms could develop each afternoon, especially near the Thumb and down into Hamtramck and Dearborn. No severe weather is expected, but localized downpours could reduce visibility and pond on roadways.
Weekend plans may need adjusting. Friday’s high near 73°F comes with continued shower chances, which linger into Saturday and Sunday. Those heading out should monitor updated alerts and consider postponing outdoor events if thunder is heard nearby.
Storm activity may increase overnight Thursday and again Saturday night, though the current outlook keeps storms widely scattered. Spotter activation is not currently anticipated.
