Detroit, Michigan – Intense heat and a risk of damaging storms will slam Southeast Michigan today, threatening evening travel and outdoor plans. Wind gusts could top 60 mph, with heavy rain potentially causing street flooding across metro Detroit and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms is in place until 7 p.m. Tuesday. The greatest threat zone includes Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties, with timing focused between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Storms may down trees and power lines, especially along I-94 and I-75. Spotter activation is possible this afternoon.

Temperatures will surge into the lower 90s, with a heat index near 95°F in urban areas. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and secure loose items ahead of incoming storms.

Looking ahead, drier and quieter weather returns Wednesday through Friday. Highs remain in the upper 80s to low 90s, with mostly sunny skies expected through Independence Day. The next chance of showers arrives Saturday night, followed by potential Sunday thunderstorms.
