Gaylord, Michigan – High heat and rising storm chances will grip Northern Michigan on Tuesday, putting residents on alert for power disruptions, road hazards, and heat-related illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and heat indices peaking between 95–104°F. While Tuesday won’t be as extreme, storms are expected to roll in between 8 a.m. and sunset, bringing gusty winds up to 30 mph and localized downpours.

Travelers on U.S. Route 131 and M-32 near Gaylord should monitor road conditions Tuesday afternoon, as strong storms could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving. Tuesday’s high will reach 77°F in Gaylord and mid-70s elsewhere, but rising humidity will make it feel warmer.

Residents near Lake Michigan beaches should be especially cautious. A high swim risk advisory is in place due to wave activity and currents. Thunderstorms may also impact inland lakes and parks, prompting early closures or evacuation protocols.

To stay safe: avoid strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of fluids, and check on elderly neighbors. If you work outside, OSHA recommends frequent shaded breaks and hydration.

Rain chances persist through Thursday, with another round of storms possible Wednesday night. Spotter activation is not expected, but updated advisories may follow.
