Grand Rapids, MI – Hot, dry conditions will grip much of western Michigan Sunday as temperatures rise into the mid-80s — a prelude to a more intense summer surge arriving by Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, highs will climb to 84°F on Sunday and peak near 91°F by Tuesday, bringing the hottest stretch of summer so far. Humidity will also increase, especially Monday into Tuesday, prompting discomfort and potential heat-related stress for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations.
Sunday’s forecast is clear and calm, with light west winds and no rain expected. Sunshine continues into Monday, with a high of 88°F and only scattered clouds into the evening. By Tuesday, however, conditions will turn noticeably hotter and stickier. Residents are urged to hydrate, avoid strenuous afternoon activity, and check on elderly neighbors.
A cold front moving in late Tuesday night will spark a shift: scattered showers are expected after 2 a.m., followed by a higher chance of thunderstorms Wednesday through Thursday. This could impact morning commutes, particularly along I-96 and I-196. Downpours, lightning, and gusty winds are possible midweek.
The weather moderates slightly by Friday with highs returning to the upper 70s to low 80s. More stable, drier conditions may follow next weekend.
⚠️ Stay weather-aware as updates are likely. A Hazardous Weather Outlook is currently in effect for Kent and surrounding counties.
