Detroit, MI – Heavy rain drenches Southeast Michigan Thursday night as a flood warning stretches into early Friday, but dry skies return—briefly.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. Friday for areas including Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Roads like I-94 and I-75 are particularly hazardous due to standing water. Drivers should avoid low-lying areas and heed barricade warnings.

Wind gusts may reach 40 mph overnight before skies clear early Friday. Highs on Friday will reach the mid-50s under mostly sunny conditions with breezy west winds. The break in precipitation is short-lived, however. Another round of rain will arrive late Friday night and continue into Saturday, prompting renewed flooding concerns.

Saturday will stay wet, with highs in the mid-50s and rain expected mainly after 2 a.m. into the afternoon. Showers may taper by Sunday morning but could return again by Monday. The next workweek begins unsettled, with more scattered rain chances through Tuesday.

This weather pattern follows a series of thunderstorms that dropped 1–2 inches of rain across the region late Wednesday into Thursday. Some locations along the M-59 corridor received even more, straining drainage and flooding small streams and roads.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially near flood-prone zones. Turn around—don’t drown—remains the key safety message.
