Michigan – A mix of snow, sleet, and gusty winds is set to impact Northern Michigan on Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions ahead of St. Patrick’s Day. The National Weather Service warns of accumulating snow and strong northwest winds reaching up to 30 mph, making road conditions slippery, particularly along I-75 and M-32 near Gaylord.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, rain will transition into snow showers Sunday morning, with up to two inches of accumulation expected in some areas. Wind gusts may bring reduced visibility and scattered power outages, especially in open areas. Drivers should exercise caution, particularly in rural stretches of Northern Michigan.

Sunday night will see lingering snow showers, with temperatures dropping into the upper teens. By Monday, partly cloudy skies will return, but highs will only reach the mid-40s, making for a chilly St. Patrick’s Day.

Looking ahead, Tuesday brings a brief warm-up to the low 50s, followed by increasing cloud cover and the potential for midweek rain showers. By Wednesday, another round of precipitation is expected, with rain likely turning to snow late in the day.

Residents should prepare for fluctuating conditions and allow extra time for travel Sunday and early next week. Stay updated on road conditions via MDOT’s website and check forecasts for the latest weather developments.
