Marquette, MI – A late-season snowstorm is set to blanket parts of Upper Michigan, bringing hazardous travel to Marquette and nearby counties overnight Sunday into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 p.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday, impacting Delta and Marquette Counties, including the cities of Gladstone, Escanaba, Gwinn, and Marquette. Snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph. The most dangerous travel conditions are forecast along US-41 and M-28, especially during the Monday morning commute.
Drivers should slow down and exercise caution as snow and gusty winds may reduce visibility and create slippery roads overnight. Road crews are expected to respond, but early-morning travel may remain dangerous.
After the snow clears Monday, temperatures will remain chilly. Monday’s high in Marquette will hover near 34°F, followed by lows around 25°F at night with a slight chance of flurries. The rest of the week looks drier, but cooler than average for early spring.
Here’s the extended five-day forecast for Marquette:
- Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 34°F. Low around 22°F.
- Wednesday: Partly cloudy, high 42°F, low 31°F.
- Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 41°F.
- Friday: Chance of rain and snow mix, high 41°F.
While winter hangs on this week, residents should prepare for cold mornings and keep an eye on changing conditions.
