Gaylord, MI – A winter storm warning remains in effect for portions of northern Michigan, including Mackinac, Chippewa, Benzie, and Leelanau Counties, with heavy snowfall expected through late Wednesday. Total accumulations range between 2 to 8 inches, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, areas such as Beaver Island, Manistee, and surrounding regions will experience whiteout conditions with visibility dropping below 1/4 mile at times. The storm will significantly impact roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, making travel potentially life-threatening.
For Mackinac and Chippewa Counties, the warning is in place from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. In Benzie, Leelanau, and Manistee Counties, the warning extends from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday.
