Detroit, MI – A significant shift in Michigan’s weather begins Monday as rain moves into the region ahead of a cold front. Temperatures will drop sharply by midweek, bringing the season’s coldest air yet and a chance of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will develop late Sunday night and persist through much of Monday, with highs reaching the upper 40s to low 50s. Commuters should plan for wet roadways Monday, especially during the morning rush. Winds from the southwest may gust up to 20 mph, reducing visibility in some areas.

By Tuesday, the cold front will sweep across Southeast Michigan, causing temperatures to plunge into the mid-20s by Thursday. Forecasters predict a mix of rain and snow Tuesday evening, with increasing snow chances Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. While snowfall totals remain uncertain, road conditions could become slippery, particularly on untreated surfaces like I-94 and I-75.

The National Weather Service warns residents to prepare for the bitter cold expected Thursday, with highs only in the low 20s and wind chills in the teens. Snow showers are possible throughout the day, though accumulation will likely remain light.

Looking ahead, the chill is expected to linger through the weekend, with Friday’s high near 27 degrees and freezing rain possible overnight. Residents are encouraged to dress warmly and check local road conditions before traveling.
