Marquette, Michigan – A fast-moving line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to sweep across Upper Michigan tonight, bringing a threat of damaging winds and large hail during the late-night hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, storms will push northeast from Wisconsin through the Upper Peninsula between 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday EDT. The strongest storms may bring wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter.
Communities across western and central U.P., including Iron Mountain, Escanaba, and Marquette, are under a slight to enhanced risk. The greatest storm potential is focused in areas just west of Marquette and into the central U.P. where outdoor events or overnight travel may be affected. Residents are urged to secure loose items and be prepared for possible power outages.
Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially if asleep during the highest risk window. Storms are expected to weaken by early Friday morning, but additional updates or warnings may follow if the system intensifies.
