Portage, MI – Authorities are investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman found in a vacant building on Admiral Avenue. The woman, identified as Destiny Naigus of Plainwell, Michigan, was discovered by Portage officers on September 30, around 3:45 p.m.
Officers responded to a routine property check at the vacant office building in the 200 block of Admiral Avenue. Inside, they found Naigus deceased in an unsecured vestibule. Police immediately called in the department’s detective bureau and crime lab to assist with the investigation.
According to the Portage Department of Public Safety, Naigus had been in the Kalamazoo/Portage area for several weeks. She was last seen driving a 2009 Honda Accord. The cause of her death remains under investigation, pending results from the Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner’s autopsy.
Investigators are asking anyone who had recent contact with Naigus to call PDPS at (269) 324-9264 or Silent Observer. Authorities state there is no threat to public safety at this time.
