Michigan – A gray March morning hangs over Detroit, where cold air and damp pavement greet early commuters. Temperatures hover near 34°F, but the quiet start will not last long.

A fast-moving system is sweeping toward southeast Michigan, and conditions will shift quickly through the afternoon.

Temperatures climb sharply into the mid-60s today, bringing a burst of spring warmth across the Detroit metro. At the same time, winds strengthen rapidly. The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Wind Advisory beginning late this morning.

South winds will increase to 20–30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph through the afternoon and evening. Loose objects could blow around, and tree limbs may break.

Drivers should prepare for difficult travel along major corridors including I-75, I-94, and I-96, especially for high-profile vehicles. Crosswinds could be strong across open roadways and bridges.

Rain showers move in later tonight, and thunderstorms may develop as the cold front arrives. Some storms could produce strong wind gusts.

Behind the front, temperatures tumble rapidly Monday. The day begins mild but turns sharply colder as Arctic air sweeps into Michigan.

Windy conditions continue Monday with gusts approaching 40 mph, keeping the air feeling even colder. By Monday night, temperatures fall toward 20°F across Detroit.

For St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, skies turn mostly cloudy with highs near 30°F. Morning wind chills may drop close to 0°F, a sharp reminder that winter still holds on.

Midweek may bring another round of light snow showers Wednesday, though major accumulation is not expected. Temperatures slowly recover by Thursday into the lower 50s.

Long-range patterns suggest warmer spring air may finally build across the Midwest later next week.

If you’re heading out around Detroit today, secure outdoor items and watch for strong crosswinds on highways. Are winds already picking up where you live?
