Detroit, Michigan – Extreme heat and scattered thunderstorms are hammering Southeast Michigan today, with warnings in effect through 8 p.m. Tuesday along and south of I-69. Temperatures in the Detroit metro could top the mid-90s, while heat indices are climbing as high as 105°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, an Extreme Heat Warning remains active for Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, and Genesee counties. A Heat Advisory also covers counties from Monroe to Livingston. Meanwhile, a slow-moving cold front is pushing south across the region, bringing isolated thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph and brief localized flooding. The greatest storm risk stretches from Ann Arbor to the Ohio border and along I-696/96.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours. Use air-conditioning, drink fluids, and check on neighbors. Avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles. Heavy rain could also lead to standing water on roadways, particularly in low-lying areas.

Tuesday’s storm risk shifts south of I-696/96 overnight, with Wednesday bringing renewed thunderstorm chances near the Michigan/Ohio border. Stay weather-aware, as additional watches or warnings may be issued.
