Marquette, MI – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for parts of Lake Superior, warning mariners of hazardous conditions through late Thursday morning.
According to the NWS, dense fog will reduce visibility to less than one nautical mile in areas west of a line from Saxon Harbor, Wisconsin, to Grand Portage, Minnesota, beyond five nautical miles offshore. The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. EDT (10 a.m. CDT).
Navigating in low visibility conditions can be dangerous, and boaters are urged to take precautions. The NWS advises mariners to use fog signals, ensure all running lights are operational, and rely on radar and compasses when traveling through affected areas.
The advisory may be extended if conditions persist, so mariners should stay updated on weather alerts. Anyone planning to navigate these waters should proceed with caution and remain prepared for sudden visibility changes.
