Convis Township, MI – A 48-year-old Clio man was found safe Monday night after becoming lost in a wooded area near Q Drive North and 17 Mile Road.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:28 p.m. to reports of a man yelling in the woods. They located a 47-year-old woman from Houghton Lake sitting in a vehicle at the dead end of Q Drive North. She reported that she and her boyfriend had stopped to take a break while traveling home from Mississippi when he wandered away and did not return.
The Battle Creek Police Department deployed a drone to assist in the search. Within 10 minutes of flight time, the man was located approximately 250 yards north of the vehicle, lying in tall grass. He was alert and escorted back to the scene, where paramedics were waiting. He was then transported to Oaklawn Hospital for evaluation.
Authorities credited the quick drone deployment for the man’s safe recovery on a cold 30-degree night. The search effort included Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch and the Marshall Area Firefighters Ambulance Authority.
