Michigan Man Drowns in Fatal Juno Lake Kayaking Accident

Cassopolis, MI – A Michigan man drowned in a tragic kayaking accident on Juno Lake in Mason Township, Cass County. Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reported that his office received a call around 9:53 p.m. Sunday for a man who had fallen out of his kayak and was unable to swim.

According to Sheriff Behnke, the man had been fishing when he fell into the water. The Cass County Marine Division/Dive Team, assisted by the Indian Lake Dive Team, SEPSA Fire, SEPSA Ambulance, and Penn Fire/Drone, responded to the scene. They located and recovered the man, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities noted that the man was not wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident. Sheriff Behnke indicated that alcohol might have played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
