Dearborn, MI – A Dearborn man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly striking another man with a vehicle Saturday night, leaving the victim critically injured.

According to Dearborn Police, officers responded at approximately 10:45 p.m. Saturday to the area of Michigan Avenue and Howe Street, where they found an unconscious man on the sidewalk suffering from life-threatening injuries. First responders began emergency care before the victim was transported to a local hospital.

Investigators determined the incident to be an act of vehicular assault. Police reported that the alleged driver, identified as 38-year-old Murtadha Jabbar Alizairij, was arrested at his Dearborn home later that night after voluntarily admitting involvement.

On Monday, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Alizairij with Assault With Intent to Murder, Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Assault by Strangulation, and Assault With a Dangerous Weapon. He was arraigned before Judge Gene Hunt at the 19th District Court, where bond was set at $750,000 cash, and he was ordered to wear a GPS tether.

Dearborn Police said their ongoing investigation suggests the incident may have stemmed from a long-standing personal and business dispute between Alizairij, the victim, and their families. Authorities reported that the men had known each other for more than 20 years.

The victim remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
