Pontiac, MI – A Warren man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly continuing to run human trafficking operations from inside jail, authorities said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan Ramone Wafford, 33, was arraigned Friday on two counts of human trafficking and one count of prostitution/accepting earnings. Magistrate Michael Bosnic of the 52-1 District Court set his bond at $250,000 cash. Officials said the charges stem from an investigation by the Oakland County Human Trafficking Task Force, which involved cooperation from multiple municipalities.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Wafford allegedly used jail communication devices, including phones, tablets, and video calls, to direct and control victims while in custody for unrelated charges. “Thanks to the persistence of our investigators, we were able to uncover this and rescue individuals from human trafficking,” Bouchard said in a statement.

Wafford was arrested at his home by the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, with assistance from Warren Police. Authorities said a victim and her child were in the home at the time of the arrest, and Wafford was believed to have firearms inside.

Court documents allege Wafford sent dozens of messages related to human trafficking and forced sex labor activities while serving time at Oakland County Jail on a probation violation. Investigators say his criminal history dates back to 2012, with prior convictions for drug manufacturing, felony retail fraud, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Wafford’s arrest is the latest in a series of cases credited to the Human Trafficking Task Force, which officials say is committed to protecting victims and dismantling criminal networks across Oakland County.
