South Bend, IN – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across northern Indiana and southwest Michigan as bands of heavy lake effect snow continue to impact the region through late Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the warning covers Starke, Marshall, La Porte, and St. Joseph counties in Indiana, along with Berrien County in Michigan, and remains active until 1 a.m. EST Tuesday.

Forecasters expect an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow this afternoon and evening, with locally higher amounts possible near Lake Michigan. Winds gusting across the lakeshore could bring reduced visibility and scattered power outages, especially where snow accumulates on tree limbs and power lines.

The hazardous mix is expected to make for slick and slow commutes Monday morning and evening. The NWS urges residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep emergency supplies—such as flashlights, food, and water—in their vehicles in case of delays or stranded conditions.

Lake effect snow bands may shift quickly, bringing rapid changes in visibility and road conditions across short distances. Motorists are advised to check 511 before traveling for the latest updates on local roads and closures.
