Fort Wayne, IN – Rain and gusty winds are expected to move into Michiana late Wednesday night and continue into Thursday, followed by a sharp temperature drop that could create slick conditions by Thursday night and early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, rain will track into the region overnight as strong southerly winds develop ahead of a cold front. Thursday is expected to be windy and mild, with daytime high temperatures reaching between 45 and 52 degrees across northeast Indiana.

Forecasters say periods of rain will continue through Thursday as the cold front approaches. Winds may become gusty at times, especially during the morning and early afternoon, which could impact travel on exposed roadways.

Colder air is forecast to surge in behind the front Thursday night into Friday, causing temperatures to fall rapidly below freezing. Meteorologists warn that a flash freeze is possible early Thursday morning in some areas and again Thursday night, as wet roads could quickly turn icy when temperatures dip into the 20s.

By Friday, much colder conditions will settle in, with morning lows between 16 and 20 degrees and daytime highs only reaching the mid-20s. A few flurries are possible, though no significant snow accumulation is expected at this time.

Temperatures are expected to rebound over the weekend, with highs climbing back into the upper 30s and low 40s by Saturday. Sunday looks seasonable, with partly cloudy skies and highs near the mid-30s.

Drivers are urged to remain cautious during temperature swings, especially overnight and during early morning commutes when icy patches may develop. Residents are also encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as timing of the temperature drop could affect road conditions.
