Marquette, MI – A major ice storm is expected to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula starting Friday morning, bringing dangerous conditions to Baraga and Marquette counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, an Ice Storm Warning is in effect from 8 a.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Sunday. Forecasters predict ice accumulations between one-tenth and one-half inch on Friday and Friday night, with additional ice and up to five inches of wet snow possible Saturday night into Sunday.
The storm may cause widespread power outages, tree damage, and treacherous travel conditions. Roads in and around Marquette, Gwinn, and L’Anse could become impassable at times, especially during morning and evening commutes on Friday.
Officials warn the weekend system could transition into a full Winter Storm Warning. Residents are urged to prepare for extended power disruptions and avoid unnecessary travel.
