Detroit, MI – Michigan residents are waking up to clear skies and a calm Columbus Day morning, but forecasters warn a midweek cooldown is on the way. Early sunshine will give way to increasing clouds by late Tuesday, bringing the region’s first hint of true fall weather this season.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, southeast Michigan can expect mostly sunny skies through Tuesday with highs in the low 70s. By Wednesday, a weak cold front will push across the area, triggering scattered showers and cooler air. Commuters on I-75 and I-94 should prepare for slower travel conditions during Wednesday morning’s drive.

Temperatures will fall sharply by midweek, with highs dropping to the low 60s and overnight lows near the low 40s. Thursday and Friday should bring brighter skies, though mornings may feel crisp — perfect for pumpkin patch visits or fall foliage trips.

Five-Day Outlook for Metro Detroit:

  • Monday (Columbus Day): Sunny, high 72°F.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 73°F.
  • Wednesday: Scattered showers early, high 64°F.
  • Thursday: Sunny and cool, high 63°F.
  • Friday: Partly sunny, high 67°F.
