Monroe, MI – A 36-year-old Monroe County man has been taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured two pedestrians in Frenchtown Township.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place Saturday night at 9:44 p.m. on N. Dixie Highway, northeast of I-75. Deputies allege the man fled the scene after striking two individuals with a blue 2009 Ford Fusion, which was later discovered severely damaged inside a garage on N. Stoney Creek Road.

Authorities executed search warrants on Monday and arrested the man at his residence, identifying him as the homeowner. His name has not been released, but officials said he is facing two counts of failing to stop at the scene of an injury crash and was lodged in the Monroe County Jail.

The victims, Connie L. Cosby and Anthony R. Keister, both 40 and from Monroe, were walking northbound across N. Dixie Highway when they were struck. Cosby reportedly came to rest in the center lane, while Keister landed in the northeast lane.

The suspect’s vehicle, a 2009 Ford sedan, fled the scene after impact. The investigation remains ongoing by Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Deputies Alec Preadmore and Steven Warren.
