Lansing, MI – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hiring transportation maintenance workers ahead of the winter season, with pay starting at $20.77 per hour and rising to $29.20 per hour for experienced employees.

According to MDOT, positions are available in both Port Huron and Dundee. The Blue Water Bridge site in Port Huron is seeking seasonal workers for limited-term winter maintenance, while Dundee’s Monroe West Garage is hiring full-time permanent staff.

The Port Huron job runs October through April, offering full-time seasonal hours, though MDOT notes there is no guarantee of the full duration. Duties include snow removal, plowing, salting, and operating heavy equipment on and around the Blue Water Bridge. The deadline to apply is Monday, September 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

In Dundee, permanent positions are available with responsibilities including state trunk line upkeep, roadside and winter maintenance, and participation in MDOT’s work element program. Applicants must be capable of operating large maintenance vehicles and trailers with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,001 pounds or more. Applications for the Dundee position close Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

Both positions fall under the Michigan State Employees Association (MSEA) bargaining unit. Candidates will be reviewed based on education and experience to determine their pay level.
