Detroit, Michigan – A multi-day heat wave is set to scorch Michigan starting Saturday morning, with heat index values reaching up to 104°F and dangerously warm nights offering little relief.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Detroit and Grand Rapids, an Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning through Tuesday evening for most of southeast and southwest Michigan, including cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint, Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Kalamazoo.

The prolonged stretch of heat is expected to bring several days of high humidity and daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. Nighttime lows will hover in the 70s, reducing the body’s ability to recover and increasing the risk of heat-related illness, particularly for older adults, children, and outdoor workers.

Cooling centers are expected to open across counties including Wayne, Washtenaw, Ingham, and Kent. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, avoid strenuous activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

This event could be Michigan’s longest June heat stretch since 2012, and officials warn more advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.

Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday night. Stay tuned for emergency updates.
