Grand Rapids, MI – A sharp drop in temperatures is expected across western Michigan tonight and Wednesday night, with the National Weather Service warning of scattered to widespread frost.
According to the US National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, frost tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 7) will mainly affect Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Clare, Osceola, and Lake counties. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s, with colder pockets north of M-20 seeing the most frost formation.
By Wednesday night (Oct. 8), temperatures will fall even further, with widespread frost likely across much of the region, including Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Muskegon. Minimum temperatures are forecast to hover in the mid-30s to upper 20s in some inland areas.
Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation, as sub-freezing temperatures could damage outdoor plants. “If you have any plants you plan to overwinter indoors, make sure to bring them inside,” forecasters advised.
The cold front follows an unseasonably mild stretch of fall weather, signaling a noticeable shift toward colder conditions as the region moves deeper into October.
Motorists are also reminded that early-morning frost could create slick spots on bridges and rural roads.
