Marquette, MI – Michigan residents in the Upper Peninsula woke up to a serious Freeze Warning this Tuesday morning, with temperatures plunging into the upper 20s across Baraga, Iron, and Marquette Counties. The National Weather Service says frost and freezing conditions could damage unprotected plants and plumbing through 10 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, sub-freezing air will dominate much of central and western Upper Michigan today. Homeowners are urged to cover plants, wrap outdoor pipes, and drain sprinkler systems to prevent freeze damage. Drivers along US-41 and M-28 may encounter icy spots early this morning before sunshine melts any frost.
By Thursday, a shift in winds from the south will bring warmer conditions, with highs climbing into the low 60s and sunshine returning. Friday looks mild with a chance of scattered showers, while Saturday promises mostly sunny skies — perfect for pumpkin patch trips or Halloween decorating.
Looking ahead, Sunday and Columbus Day will stay seasonably warm with highs in the mid-60s. Despite this brief cold snap, fall colors across Upper Michigan are peaking, making it an ideal week for leaf-viewing drives along M-28 or the shores of Lake Superior.
