Monroe, MI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing two school resource officers for their exceptional service and dedication to local students.
According to Sheriff Troy Goodnough, Deputies William Rollins and Christine Ost were commended for their ongoing commitment to the safety, success, and well-being of students and staff across Monroe County’s public schools. The department currently has twelve school resource officers serving eight districts countywide.
Deputy Rollins, assigned to Erie Mason Consolidated Schools, launched a creative initiative called “October Jam Fest.” For two weeks, he brought musical instruments to school during lunch periods, encouraging students to perform, overcome stage fright, and build confidence through music.
Deputy Ost, assigned to Summerfield Schools, recently organized an outing for a small group of students to Gust Brother’s Pumpkin Farm as part of a mentoring effort. The goal, according to the Sheriff’s Office, was to help students develop stronger social connections and self-confidence through community engagement.
Sheriff Goodnough emphasized that school resource officers play a vital role in fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and youth through daily interactions, guidance, and mentorship.
