Grand Rapids, MI – Deputies in Kent County are investigating a crash that left significant damage to a Walgreens store on Northland Drive NE after a driver allegedly struck the building late Friday night.
According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the Walgreens located at 5100 Northland Drive NE. The store was closed at the time, and fortunately, no one was inside.
Deputies said the driver fled the scene but was quickly located by responding patrol units. He was taken into custody and booked into the Kent County Jail on multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated (OWI) and leaving the scene of a crash.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized the dangers of impaired driving, noting the driver was “fortunate to be alive.” The department urged residents to make responsible choices and avoid drinking and driving.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
