Ann Arbor, MI – With colder weather settling into southeast Michigan, Washtenaw County’s winter warming program is now officially underway, offering daytime and overnight shelter options for individuals and families in need through early spring. The City of Ann Arbor Police Department released updated information Thursday outlining where residents can go for safe, warm accommodations.

According to county officials, the winter shelter season runs November 10, 2025, through April 14, 2026, with multiple daytime warming centers open in both Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. The primary weekday location—the Ypsilanti Freighthouse at 100 Market Place—operates Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional rotating daytime sites in Ann Arbor include Zion Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor Friends’ Meeting, St. Mary’s Student Parish, First Congregational Church, First Baptist Church, and the Ann Arbor Day Site.

For overnight shelter needs, individuals are asked to contact Housing Access for Washtenaw County (HAWC) at 734-961-1999 for referrals. After 5 p.m., the Delonis Center (734-662-2829) handles direct intake, providing location details and transportation assistance for overnight accommodations.

County officials note that shelters offer more than a warm space—services may include meals, case management, medical assistance, and long-term housing support. Families seeking help can contact Alpha House at 734-822-0220, and survivors of domestic violence can access SafeHouse resources.

Washtenaw County reminds residents that warming site availability may shift throughout the season. Updated information is available at bit.ly/washtenaw-warming or by calling the Delonis Center directly.
