DETROIT, Mich. – Streetlights reflect off slick pavement this morning as light rain mixes with wet snow across metro Detroit. The air feels sharp, damp, and heavy — a clear sign that Michigan’s first true winter weather pattern is here.

A rain-to-snow transition is underway from the northern suburbs down toward the city as colder air filters in from the Great Lakes. The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac reports a 100% chance of precipitation early today, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s. Roads could turn slick through midday, especially on bridges and overpasses along I-75, I-94, and I-96.

By late morning, precipitation shifts to mostly snow north of the city, while Detroit itself sees a mix of slush and light flakes. New accumulation of less than an inch is possible, mainly on grassy or elevated surfaces. Winds from the northeast at 10–15 mph will keep the chill steady.

As the system pulls east, Monday brings scattered snow showers and brisk northwest winds, with highs near 36°F and gusts up to 25 mph. Lows will dip into the 20s — cold enough to freeze any leftover puddles. By Veterans Day, drier air returns under partly sunny skies, but the cold lingers with highs near 40°F.

Midweek looks calmer but chilly, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the 30s. Another potential late-week front could bring fresh flurries to the region by next weekend — a reminder that November in Michigan rarely stays quiet for long.

This stretch marks an early “winter tease” for metro Detroit — not a full blast, but just enough to cue snow shovels, salt bags, and heavier coats.
