Roscommon, Michigan – Residents across Northern Lower Michigan will want to bring in plants and prep gardens tonight as temperatures are set to plunge into the low 30s by early Saturday. A Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m., with lows ranging from 31° to 37° expected in areas like Cheboygan, Kalkaska, and Otsego counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, this advisory spans ten counties, including Wexford, Missaukee, and Montmorency. The drop in temperature could cause patchy to widespread frost, especially in low-lying or rural areas, threatening sensitive vegetation and late-season crops.
Gardeners and farmers are advised to cover tender plants or move them indoors to avoid damage. While this won’t be a hard freeze, the cold will be enough to kill unprotected vegetation, particularly in open fields or poorly sheltered gardens.
Temperatures will rebound after sunrise, but another round of cold weather isn’t off the table heading into early next week. More advisories may follow depending on nighttime trends.
