Marquette, MI – High winds and lake effect snow are expected to create hazardous travel and outdoor conditions across Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula beginning Monday afternoon. Forecasts call for wind gusts exceeding 50 mph and moderate snow accumulation by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, west-southwest winds will intensify Monday, with gusts over 35 mph by the afternoon and topping 50 mph overnight. This will bring blowing and drifting snow to the region, especially along exposed roadways. Motorists should use caution on M-26 and US-41, where visibility may rapidly decrease.

A cold front is set to bring additional snow late Monday into Tuesday. Temperatures will remain in the 20s and low 30s through the week, with light to moderate snow continuing through Wednesday.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during high winds, and monitor local updates. Those near Lake Superior should also prepare for lake-effect conditions impacting visibility and travel times.

Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve.
