Marquette, MI – Upper Michigan residents should prepare for significant snow and hazardous travel conditions starting tonight and lasting into Monday. A clipper system moving through the region will bring widespread snowfall of 2 to 4 inches, with lake-effect snow creating localized totals of 8 inches or more in the Keweenaw Peninsula and areas northwest of Marquette.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, probabilities for heavy snowfall are highest in the western Upper Peninsula, with snow expected to intensify late tonight. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday, warning of slippery roads, particularly along M-28 and US-41. Motorists should drive cautiously and anticipate slow travel during the Monday morning commute.

The snowfall is expected to transition to lake-effect bands on Monday, bringing colder temperatures and persistent flurries. Highs will hover around 21°F in Marquette, with wind chills dipping into the single digits. Gusts of up to 25 mph could create drifting snow and reduce visibility.

Looking ahead, conditions will remain wintry. Snow showers are likely Monday night, tapering off by Tuesday morning. Tuesday will see a high near 20°F before temperatures plummet to 10°F overnight. Snow chances return Wednesday afternoon, though accumulations will be lighter.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall. Prepare vehicles with emergency supplies, and clear walkways to prevent accidents as snow accumulates.
