Grand Rapids, MI – An arctic air mass is set to grip Michigan this week, bringing dangerously cold wind chills and persistent lake effect snow. Residents should prepare for hazardous conditions, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values could drop as low as -6°F on Tuesday, with gusts up to 30 mph. Snow showers are expected overnight and into Washington’s Birthday, with accumulation near an inch.

By midweek, temperatures will struggle to rise above 20°F, and snow showers will persist, especially in areas along I-96 and I-196. Wednesday night could see increased snowfall with a 70% chance of accumulation.

Thursday will bring some relief, with a high near 26°F, but another round of snow showers is possible. Overnight lows will remain bitterly cold, dipping into the low teens.

Drivers should exercise caution on slick roads and bundle up against the extreme cold. Stay updated with local forecasts and take precautions to prevent frostbite during prolonged outdoor exposure.
