Harrison Township, MI – Four people were injured Sunday afternoon after a boat explosion in Belvedere Bay, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident occurred September 14, 2025, at about 3:45 p.m. when the vessel’s engine compartment flamed up as the owner, one adult passenger, and two juveniles attempted to leave the bay. The fire spread quickly, causing the engine to explode and ejecting all four people from the boat.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a Good Samaritan vessel rescued the victims from the water and transported them to shore. The Harrison Township Fire Department provided immediate medical treatment. Three of the four occupants suffered injuries requiring hospitalization. All are currently listed as stable.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division deputies extinguished the burning vessel and arranged for it to be towed. Investigators later determined that the explosion appeared accidental, with no signs of foul play.

Authorities emphasized that the response of bystanders and fire crews helped ensure the victims received rapid medical care.
