Miami, Florida – South Florida residents are facing a sweltering Thursday as heat index values soar past 105°F, with wind gusts up to 50 mph and afternoon storms expected to add to the risk.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, max heat index values today will reach between 105°F and 107°F in Southwest Florida and between 102°F and 105°F in Southeast Florida. Prolonged exposure may lead to heat exhaustion, especially during the peak afternoon hours between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Interior and Gulf coast cities like Immokalee, LaBelle, and Naples are seeing the highest heat and rain chances today. Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach will also experience oppressive humidity with increasing thunderstorm activity in the afternoon. Rain coverage is expected to expand from late morning into evening as sea breezes drive storms inland.
Winds could gust between 40–50 mph, and storms may bring heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Residents are urged to stay indoors, hydrate regularly, and avoid outdoor labor or travel during the hottest parts of the day. Air conditioning is recommended—fans and open windows won’t provide adequate cooling.
Warnings remain in place through tonight, and additional heat advisories may follow if high humidity persists into Friday.
