Miami, Florida – Heavy downpours are already pushing into South Florida this afternoon, with storms capable of flooding streets and slowing travel across major metro areas within the next few hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, showers and thunderstorms entering northern Palm Beach County around 3:30 p.m. are expected to drift south into Broward and Miami-Dade through the evening. Rainfall rates could quickly add up to 2 to 3 inches in a short period, increasing the risk of urban flash flooding.
The highest impacts are expected across densely populated areas including West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, where poor drainage and heavy traffic can worsen flooding conditions. Roads like I-95, U.S. 1, and local surface streets could see standing water during peak commute hours.
Storms may also produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and small hail, with an isolated severe storm or brief tornado not ruled out.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, monitor alerts, and be ready to move to higher ground if water begins to rise. The flood and storm threat will continue into the evening, with additional updates likely as conditions evolve.
