Miami, Fla. – Strong storms are set to sweep across South Florida today, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and the threat of localized flooding that could make roads impassable by the afternoon. Drivers in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach should expect delays and possible closures through Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, rainfall totals may exceed 2 inches in just a few hours, raising the risk of urban flooding. The greatest threat spans the Atlantic metro areas, with storms most likely to peak between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Strong wind gusts and lightning will accompany the downpours, making outdoor activities hazardous.

Communities across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties are under limited risk for flooding, but impacts could be significant in low-lying neighborhoods and near major roadways such as I-95 and US-1. Naples and Immokalee will also see storms, though with slightly lower rainfall chances.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded streets, charge devices ahead of possible power outages, and remain indoors when lightning is nearby.

Storm chances taper off late tonight, but unsettled conditions will linger into early next week. More advisories may be issued if rainfall intensifies.
