Miami, FL – A developing tropical system near Cuba is being closely monitored today, with forecasters warning it could strengthen into a tropical depression later Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service Miami, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine (PTC 9) is currently located just north of Cuba with sustained winds near 35 mph. The system is forecast to move northward through the weekend, potentially bringing deteriorating marine conditions to Florida’s Atlantic waters beginning Sunday.

While the most likely scenario involves rough seas and strong currents offshore, forecasters caution that outer rain bands could also bring bouts of heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of South Florida. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas due to stagnant rainfall.

As of Saturday morning, no direct impacts are expected for South Florida today. However, officials recommend residents and visitors review hurricane supply kits and monitor updates as the system develops. The National Hurricane Center will continue issuing advisories as the storm evolves.

Temperatures across South Florida are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s Saturday, with afternoon thunderstorms possible due to sea breeze activity.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels, including weather.gov/miami, and remain alert as conditions may change quickly.
